Adien were pleased to be commended this year by the UKSTT for work that they had performed on the Dublin Water Mains Rehabilitation Project. Expensive traditional trial holes were being used to try and establish the accuracy of the statutory undertakers information in the design process for the project. Working mainly at night, Adien replaced the need for so many physical trial holes by undertaking electronic trial holes and slit trenches. These provided information to the designers to find the least congested route for the new water main.
When the route was designed and digging was about to commence Adien then marked out clearly on the road where the existing utilities were in order to minimise the risk of utility strike. The direct cost savings in terms of choosing the best route and also in terms of minimising the incidence of utility strikes more than covered the cost of the Adien service without taking into account the cost savings from reduced traffic management and congestion that would have inevitably occurred had the frequency and volume of physical trial holes continued.
