In response to requests from our clients Adien have introduced an innovative training course aimed at minimising utility strikes.   Our own research tells us that many utility strikes occur even when the location of the utility has been accurately established and mapped.   The two day course draws upon many decades of experience that Adien's staff have accumulated in utility detection and mapping and has been designed to give delegates a greater understanding of how to manage the risks associated with buried services and the techniques and tools available to help them.

The course leaders are Jonathan Barker and Steve Walker.  Jonathan has over a decade of experience in buried utilities including a training role at a leading radio frequency locator manufacturer and as a project manager with Adien.  Steve has worked with Adien for over 7 years including a 2 year secondment with a blue chip construction company so has experience to offer from both sides of the fence.
The original course was commissioned by a client seeking to reduce the utility strikes of their digging crews and supervisors.  Courses can easily be tailored to meet your specific needs and certain sections can be omitted or added depending upon your particular requirements.  Jonathan or Steve will be happy to discuss this with you.
Unlike traditional "cat and genny" courses this course starts by setting out the legal context for dealing with the risks presented by buried services which are encompassed in HSG47 and the CDM regulations.
We move on to helping delegates through the issues encountered in interpreting utility providers' own drawings and the problems that these can present.  The course then reviews all the techniques currently available to accurately locate utilities (including ground probing radar) and looks specifically at the limitations of all the equipment and some of the common pitfalls encountered by infrequent users of it.
Delegates then progress to reviewing professional utility detection and mapping drawings and investigate the issues of understanding such information.  The course concludes with the delegates getting hands on experience of using the latest equipment (radio frequency and ground probing radar) available to detect utilities.  This begins with a site observation exercise and deals with the specific issues of locating the line and depth of utilities in congested areas, using sondes and the tracing of a threaded line using traditional and other radio frequency equipment.
Course fees start from £95.00 +VAT per day.  Group discounts are available.
